Keno was referred to as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were delivered by pigeons from bigger municipalities to the lesser towns. The lotto ‘Keno’ was brought to America in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants who headed to the United States to work. In those times, Keno was played with one hundred and twenty numbers.

Keno is played with 80 numbers and twenty numbers are selected each round. Players of Keno can choose from two to ten numbers and bet on them, whatever amount they are able to. The payout of Keno is according to the bets made and the matching of numbers.

Keno grew in acceptance in the US near the close of the 19th century when the Chinese characters were replaced with more familiar, US numbers. Lottos were not covered under the laws of wagering in Nevada State in 1931. The casinos renamed the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ utilizing the concept that the numbers are horses and you are looking for your horses to come in. When the Nevada government passed a law that levied a tax on off track gambling, Nevada casinos swiftly altered the name to ‘Keno’.
