It may not ordinarily be thought of as the sexiest game in the realm of betting, but keno has tons of steadfast fans. And so it should! It’s a regularly entertaining lotto-style game that’s easy to pickup, abundantly available in tons of different styles, and one that may pay out mega-dollars for people who learn its endless subtle nuances. But let’s start with the beginner’s rules for now.
When explaining keno to amateurs, some gaming pros compare it to the lottery. This is at least in some ways correct, in that each game is generally numerical. Yet to take that comparison too far would be to undervalue the many unique characteristics that make keno so compelling. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the freedom to select the numbers for each card.
Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the user is given an extra degree of personal responsibility by being able to determine as many (or as few) numbers as he or she feels they need. And it doesn’t take a nuclear physicist to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all your handpicked numbers with a ordinaryball point pen like you used back in school.
Once you’ve selected your numbers, carry your card back to the person at the keno booth. The clerk will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not lose this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your loud shirt and would like to help out, without a winning ticket on you, you will get precisely $.00 for your efforts.
So, there you have strategy #1: always take care to keep your keno slip. Let us move on to something a little more advanced, ok?
Once you’ve checked off your numbers, get yourself into a nice keno booth and see the action unfold on a video monitor. That is where the winning numbers show up for all to see. If you have winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Make sure not to drag your feet, or sit there congratulating yourself for too great a length of time. You must get up to the keno stand to redeem your winnings, and a new round of keno will probably get going within not too many minutes.
Strategy number 2: always go back to the keno booth on time!
Assuming you can’t trust yourself to make that five-minute margin every time, you always retain the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the same set of your desired numbers on anywhere from 2 to twenty tickets. When the max number of keno games (fitting the amount of tickets) is completed, you can then get off your numb bum and go retrieve your winnings.
Still another opportunity is known as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which usually allows you make number selection for 30 keno rounds or more. Gosh, you can take vacation to Italy and not have to fret about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" game tickets are good for up to a whole year after you purchase it!
And now you know a few indispensable methods for winning keno. If you are an experienced gambler, they might seem very obvious. But it won’t hurt to bone up on the fundamentals, and if you are a novice keno player, every tiny bit of direction will help make your keno playing more enjoyable.
